Researchers are hoping they are one step closer to a HIV vaccine – using HIV. At the 6th International AIDS Society Conference on HIV Pathogens, Treatment, and Prevention in Rome, researchers with the Maryland-based VirxSys Corporation announced the findings of their VRX1273 vaccine. The vaccine is a genetically altered version of SIV, the version of HIV found in non-human primates. Over the course of six months, five infected monkeys were injected with the vaccine three times, while five others were given a placebo vaccine. After 18 months, it was found that 40% of the vaccinated monkeys had very low to undetectable amounts of virus in their bodies. “We are well on the path to a functional cure, at least in monkeys,” says Laurent Humeau, VirxSys vice president of research and development. “Although this pre-clinical study is modest in terms of size, it is highly unusual to see near non-detectable levels of the virus not only circulating in the blood, but also in the reservoi

Authorities say body found in public pool went undetected for days

Image
(CNN) -- Authorities say the body of a woman who died in a Massachusetts public pool went undetected for days as swimmers continued to use the pool before the victim was found floating. The body of Marie Joseph, 36, was discovered by teenagers Tuesday evening in the Vietnam Veterans Swimming Pool in Fall River, Massachusetts, according to Bristol County district attorney's spokesman Gregg Miliote. Joseph had gone to the pool on Sunday with a 9-year-old neighbor and his family. She collided with the boy while the pair careened down a pool slide, Miliote said. After the collision, the boy surfaced but the woman did not, he said. It was not clear Thursday what happened after the collision or whether the boy and his family sought Joseph's whereabouts when they left the pool. Authorities continued to investigate the cause of death Thursday. The pool -- which is 12 feet deep at its deepest --- was described as "cloudy" by a health inspector who examined the po

Rap-A-Lot Records 2K filed the lawsuit against Chinara Butler in the District Court of Harris County, Texas. According to the lawsuit, Pimp C entered into an agreement with James Prince and Rap-A-Lot Records in October of 2000. Under the agreement, Pimp C agreed to record exclusively for Rap-A-Lot, which would be the sole and exclusive owner of all copyrights in the masters recorded by Pimp C. The lawsuit claims that when Pimp C passed away in December of 2008, his wife Chinara was appointed as the independent administrator and sole representative of Pimp C's estate. Shortly after the rapper's death, Rap-A-Lot and Chinara Butler also amended the agreement. Under the amended agreement, Butler was allegedly supposed to deliver 10 masters to Rap-A-Lot Records. US Airways Pilot Makes Citizen's Arrest Over Sagging Pants

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- The young man kicked off a flight at San Francisco International Airport because of his saggy pants says he is embarrassed by all the negative attention. Deshon Marman, 20, says he feels sorry for all those inconvenienced by the disruption the incident caused. He says he is trying hard to be a role model to young kids in the Bayview District, where he grew up. "I really want to apologize to the passengers of Flight 488, you know; I never had any intentions of interrupting the flight," Marman said. Marman believes the crew on the flight overreacted to his comfortable traveling attire -- a windbreaker and pajama bottoms. The gate agent told him to pull up his pants as she took his boarding pass. The airline told ABC7 his "pants were below his knees, exposing his underwear." Marman refutes that claim. "My pants were actually not below my knees or my buttocks, you know, they were slightly below my waist," he said. "As I

Jimmy Henchman Associates Charged With Murdering 50 Cent's Friend

(AllHipHop News) Two men associated with music manager James "Jimmy Henchman" Rosemond have been charged with the murder of an associate of superstar rapper 50 Cent, after he allegedly smacked Rosemond's teenaged son in March of 2007. Lowell "Lodi Mac" Fletcher was gunned down in September of 2009, shortly after he was released from prison for assaulting Rosemond's son with G-Unit associate, Tony Yayo. Federal investigators believe that Rosemond hired two men to murder Fletcher in retaliation for the assault on his son, which occurred on West 25th street in Manhattan, just blocks away from Violator Management, which handles the careers of 50 and Tony Yayo. Henchman's son was wearing a Czar Entertainment shirt and walking to the offices of Rosemond's Czar Entertainment, which is on the same street as Violator's headquarters. Fletcher along with Tony Yayo were accused of accosting and smacking Rosemond's son. Fletcher was
